These winter storms have really wreaked havoc with flight reservations. My brother was stranded by the east coast storm last weekend, and every flight that they booked him on got cancelled. His four day weekend is turning into a six day week, and worse yet, the weather there is still really miserable.
Making flight reservations for winter travel is always a tricky thing, because one never knows when bad weather will cause flight cancellations and flight delays. One winter I got stuck overnight at the Detroit airport on my way home to Phoenix, not because of bad weather in Detroit, but because of a bad winter storm in Phoenix; it was heavy rain, of all things, that cancelled the flight.
Generally the airlines do a great job at getting people to their destinations on time, but as with all flying, mother nature has the upper hand. People have few choices; they can either fly or drive, and hope for the best. For my money, however, I will fly to far away places, and make those flight reservations on the good faith that weather will cooperate.
